Cris Jacobs delivered a Goodbye 2020 livestream on December 29. The singer-songwriter and guitarist included tributes to a number of legendary artists the world lost in 2020 including John Prine, Bill Withers and more.
Jacobs kicked off the set on acoustic guitar with Tom Petty’s “Time To Move On” ahead of his own “Let Me Off This Train” and additional covers from Chris Stapleton (“Starting Over”), Jimmy Martin (“Freeborn Man”), Ry Cooder (“Feelin Bad Blues”) and Johnny Nash (“I Can See Clearly Now”). Nash passed away in October. After “Under The Big Top,” Jacobs honored Bill Withers — who died in March — with his classic “Grandma’s Hands,” which saw Jacobs on cigar box slide guitar.
Next up, Jacobs offered his own “Turn Into Gold” before an homage to John Prine — who died in April — on acoustic guitar with “It’s A Big Old Goofy World.” Jacobs then performed two songs by Bob Dylan, “Tangled Up in Blue” and “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue,” ahead of more originals with “Hallelujah Hustler” and “Afterglow,” both of which saw Cris picking up an electric guitar. Next came a nod to Little Richard with “Long Tall Sally.” Little Richard passed away in May. Jacobs then paid homage to another fallen legend, the reggae pioneer Toots Hibbert, with “Time Tough.” After his own “Shine Your Weary Light,” Jacobs kept the tributes rolling with more Withers (“Lean On Me”) and a tune from the late country legend Billy Joe Shaver with his classic “Live Forever.” Derek and the Dominos’ “Got To Get Better In A Little While” counted as the penultimate number before Cris concluded the livestream with his own “Hold Close These Things.”
