Widespread Panic continues to dig into their archives for gems shared on the band’s YouTube channel. The latest pro-shot video features the sextet’s “Protein Drink” / “Sewing Machine” suite from Oak Mountain Amphitheatre in Pelham, Alabama on April 16, 2011.
Vic Chesnutt wrote both songs for inclusion on 1995’s Nine High A Pallet, an album recorded by the acclaimed singer-songwriter and members of Widespread Panic as brute. Chesnutt joined the band for live debuts of the songs on New Year’s Eve 2001 and then Panic brought back “Protein Drink” / “Sewing Machine” on July 29, 2006. The songs have remained live staples ever since and have been played in sequence nearly every time.
Widespread Panic ended their first set at Oak Mountain with “Protein Drink” / “Sewing Machine” on April 16, 2011. The pairing came a few songs after the six-piece dusted off a cover of Little Feat’s “Down On The Farm” for the first time in 412 shows.
